Winter Hair Care Tips

We're not quite there yet...

If you're based in the UK, we've still a few weeks before we can expect the warmer weather to start coming in. So it's not quite time to give up on our winter hair care routine.

Here we have four tips, to help you get to the end of the season.

Tip 1: Incorporate Hair Oil into Your Routine

One thing that you need to worry about during the winter season is that your scalp gets dry. And when it gets dry, it can lead to flakiness, dandruff, inflammation, and hair breakage. An excellent way to prevent this is to apply oil to your scalp. Massaging oils such as grapeseed into your scalp improves moisture, promotes blood flow, and nourishes your hair follicles.

Tip 2: Reduce the Use of Heated Styling Tools

Styling your hair during the winter can be tricky because of how delicate your hair strands already are. Using hot styling tools in winter can cause your hair to be dry and brittle. It's advisable to towel dry your hair as much as you can and choose to wear it in protective hairstyles.

Tip 3: Avoid Washing Your Hair Frequently

I know, I know … I posted not too long ago about how important it is to have a clean scalp ….Buuuuutttt...When you wash your hair, you strip it of oils and moisture. Considering the cold season keeps your hair dry already, over washing your hair too much will make it even dryer.

Vary your routine and stretch shampoo washes out. Ensure you use sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners that are rich in amino acids, such as our Vitanourish Shampoo & Conditioner. This will keep your hair moisturized and healthy all season.

Tip 4: Choose Protective Styling

Protective styles are exactly what they sound like; styles that protect your hair from damage. Winter is the perfect time to wear protective styles because it reduces manipulation. Not sure where to start? Here are a few to try:

Crochet Braids: This style is a beginner-friendly style that is chic and easy on your scalp. Thanks to the variety and easy installation process, you can switch up the style whenever you choose.

Cornrows: This is the perfect style for you if you love to keep it simple and fresh. Easy to maintain and very versatile, you can decide to get a ponytail cornrow or the regular and it'll look good.

Box Braids: One of my personal favourites, box braids are great during the winter. They keep your hair protected and have so many amazing ways to style them. Whether you prefer chunky or thin braids, you'll look incredible.

A Bun: Minimal and cute, a bun holds your hair together and prevents any loss of moisture. It's very easy to take down and redo after a while, so your hair will always be in a good state.

It's always essential to treat your hair with a bit of extra care during the winter because of how delicate it becomes. Use the tips we have provided and your hair will remain healthy until the warmer weather is here (soon I hope).
